Rotational Process Engineer

H.B. Fuller is seeking an Engineering new grad to join our Healthy, Hygiene & Consumables Global Business Unit. This is a great opportunity to begin a career in the chemical/adhesive industry and be mentored by our experienced Engineer team.

This position is part of a 2-year rotational program where you will have the opportunity to learn about the adhesive industry, our company operations and lead key projects at 3-4 of our manufacturing sites.  Each rotation/project will be roughly 6 months in length. At the end of the program, you will be assigned a permanent position at one of our U.S. plants.

This position requires a hands-on engineer with energy, drive and enthusiasm. This role is a developmental role, providing a wide range of real-life experiences in manufacturing plants.

Location:
The rotations of this position will be at 3-4 of the following plants:
  • Simpsonville, South Carolina
  • Blue Ash, Ohio
  • Morris, Illinois
  • Tucker and Covington, Georgia
  • Paducah, Kentucky
  • Mesquite, Texas
  • Vancouver, Washington
  • Syracuse, New York

Expectations for the role include: 
  • Develop systems for robust process data collection and visualization 
  • Collaborate with operational teams to improve systems to report key operational performance data (production rates, yields, uptime, unit cost, etc.) while using the data the help guide areas of improvement. Analyze the data to generate solutions, ideas and projects for delivering continuous improvements.
  • Use Lean tools to support and identify opportunities to both standardize and optimize manufacturing protocols in operations 
  • Conduct routine and innovative engineering calculations and analyses in support of adhesives manufacturing and process development. Routinely calculates financial impact of process alternatives and presents recommendations to management 
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to improve safety, productivity, quality, run-time, process capability, and unit costs. 
  • Ability to lead or participate in Capital Expenditure projects.
  • Perform product and process trials at manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure proper design / safety reviews are conducted and proper management of change procedures are followed for new and existing processes.
  • Working on projects in all of the key departments of a manufacturing site.

Requirements:
  • Currently completing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering and will be graduating in Spring 2023
  • Fundamental understanding of plant processes through education and internships/work experience
  • Experience with data collection, manipulation, and visualization 
  • High level of computer competence, e.g. office, google, python, SQL/OBDC 
  • Demonstrated communication skills  
  • Demonstrated success in individual and team-based challenges 
  • Preferred qualification: completed one engineering internship in a manufacturing environment 
  • Must be willing to relocate to complete the rotations.
