Winter Co-op/Automation Engineering

Description of Department:

Automation maintains/troubleshoots instrumentation and controls systems for Operations and Facilities. Maintains equipment while working with other Automation team members to ensure effective strategy is executed in Manufacturing and Packaging to support best in class up-time for equipment.

Job Description:

  • Experience in installing and troubleshooting PLC’s, AC/DC motors, motor starters, 3-phase power distribution, solid state logic, process instrumentation, VFD’s, Robotics, Ethernet data networks while complying with all safety, quality, OSHA, FDA regulations and local, state, and national electrical codes.
  • Includes component level troubleshooting of microprocessor based systems, measurement-optical systems, vision systems, and programming at the micro and PLC level.
  • Install and repair electrical equipment from written specifications such as blueprints, equipment manuals, engineering sketches, and verbal instruction and update appropriate drawings to reflect changes under the guidance of a change control program in a regimental LOTO and electrical safety PPE compliant environment.
  • Respond to internal customer needs and/or requests professionally, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Provide recommendations for standardization and establishing min/max quantity of critical electrical spares.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities working productively and independently with very little supervision.
  • Seek opportunities to share experience and knowledge with others.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent degree.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6 month co-op.
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with PLCs/HMIs/Drives
  • Basic math, plus demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office (MS Work, Excel)
  • Flexibility to work overtime and change shifts as needed

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.
  • Must provide your own funding for relocation and commuting.
