Engineering Intern

Students who are currently pursuing or have recently finished an engineering undergraduate degree and interested in gaining some invaluable real-world knowledge about how municipal governments function, specifically in the area of public works and utilities.

As “The Nation’s Premier Municipal Corporation” the City of Weston takes a unique approach to
the world of public works, using contracted agreements for services in order to maintain low
overhead costs for the City. The City has a wide-range of residential communities within a city
known for its quality public safety and low crime rate, top rated public and private schools, a
meticulously landscaped environment, superior parks and recreation system, world-class health
care facilities, and a diverse and involved population and corporate community.
What Experience You Will Gain:
• Review engineering plans and designs for structures, facilities and/or systems
• Develop, prepare, and review reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering
solutions
• Perform site inspections with the Director, Assistant Director, or Utilities Manager
• Learn about GIS and its applications
• Perform GPS collection achieving decimeter accuracy
• Plenty of additional opportunities in related projects
What We Require:
• Background in civil/environmental/mechanical or related engineering or related field
• Strong communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite Office
• Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
• Interest in how municipal government functions and how it maintains its infrastructure

Details:
You are expected to work between 10 and 29 hours per week during Public Works Operating
Hours (Mon-Fri : 7:00 am - 4:00 pm) and will be paid $16/hour for undergraduate students and
$18/hr for graduate students. Interns are hired and provided to the City of Weston by our private
Contract Partner, Calvin Giordano and Associates.
