Life Scientist/Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist - Region 9

This position is in Region 9, Water Division, Immediate Office, Ground Water and Drinking Water Branch.

The location will be determined after a selection has been made for this position; if selected, you must work at one of the locations stated in this announcement. Salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected and the duty location.

Recent Graduates who have completed a qualifying degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution or technical education program within the preceding 2 years of application submittal -OR - current students who will complete a qualifying degree/certificate within 9 months of the announcement closing date. Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Assist with the evaluation and administration of regulatory programs to ensure the provision of drinking water that meets federal standards and that delivery systems meet performance requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA);
  • Participate in providing technical scientific assistance to State, Tribes, local agencies and the regulated industry on the development and implementation of regulatory control measures and the design, construction, and operation of treatment facilities to maintain and improve water system reliability and resiliency;
  • Support the management of financial assistance agreements to States, Tribes, and other agencies for program implementation and to facilities for the design and construction of drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
