Department Overview

Hot Section Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to be a part of our Engineering Development Program (EDP).

The Engineering Development Program is a multiyear program for new college hires that has been implemented to:

  • Accelerate technical capability through substantive work rotations focused in specific disciplines
  • Connect EDP participants with a network of technical resources & engineering experts.

Employees may be eligible to work on-site or in a hybrid arrangement depending on the requirements of the specific position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with oversight.
  • Generate development hardware design solutions that meet the objectives of the test engines and facilitate the delivery of the development hardware to the test engines on schedule.
  • Work with Operations to address production issues and evaluate hardware nonconformances to facilitate the timely delivery of production hardware.
  • Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost, weight, and part life.
  • Work with our Customer Technical Support (CTS) team to respond to customer questions, review deteriorated hardware, and update engine maintenance manual limits.
  • Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools.
  • This position may require up to 10% travel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Applicable fields of study include: Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • U.S. Citizenship due to government contract requirements
  • Fluent in English (verbal/written)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in the aerospace and defense industry, especially with Pratt & Whitney or other Raytheon Technologies companies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative
  • A passion for learning about and pursuing a career in aviation and aerospace
  • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability in responding to new business challenges
  • Eager to learn new things, contribute a fresh perspective, and share your knowledge with others
  • This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).

By becoming a member of the Pratt & Whitney Engineering Development Program (EDP), you will receive hands-on training to help you build your career in aerospace. This accelerated program will provide you an opportunity for professional growth as a college new hire and train you to be a future leader of the organization. College undergraduate and graduate hires are allowed to complete three to four assignments to build technical breadth and leadership abilities before graduating from the program. These rotations are complimented by discipline-specific training that will accelerate the development of EDP participants.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. This means that responsibilities of the job need to be performed onsite on a regular basis.
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
