Packaging Engineer Co-op at SAPB

We are currently hiring a Packaging Engineer Co-op at our Samuel Adams Pennsylvania Brewery in Breinigsville, PA. This position is from July 2023-December 2023.

This position will provide Packaging Engineering support for packaging materials and continuous improvement initiatives. Ranging from packaging material development, packaging material specification creation and updating, packaging material line trials and qualification, packaging supplier visits, support investigation of new packaging innovation, and gross margin projects and support of capital project implementation. 
 
What You'll Brew:

  • Support package development and packaging innovation projects. This may include some or all the following:
  • Responsible for packaging laboratory testing as assigned and analysis of resulting data.
  • Develop and validate component and package test methods.
  • Create and maintain packaging specifications and pallet patterns.
  • Maintain documentation in SAP or other software for product weight and dimensions.
  • Support of packaging material line trials, packaging material qualification and gross margin initiatives for cost saving opportunities.
  • Support of packaging continuous improvement initiatives. This includes learning, comprehending, documenting, and improving the packaging process to maximize throughput and minimize downtime. 
  • Collaborate with Quality and Packaging operations to recognize improvement ideas and initiate improvement plans. Willingness to visit and communicate with packaging suppliers.
  • Develop a deep understanding of packaging in larger scale beverage packaging operations. 
  • Candidate must be hands-on and willing to get intimately involved in packaging operations and interaction with packaging materials.
  • Responsible for project work on an as needed basis by Sr. Project Engineer and Project Managers, while interfacing with Project engineers, Quality team members, Control engineers, Instrumentation engineers, and packaging reliability teams.
 
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a student currently enrolled studying Engineering; Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical or related field
  • Must be able to commit to a 6 month Co-Op Cycle - July 2023-December 2023
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills.
  • Able to impact and effect positive change with a flexible, open-minded, positive approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to be successful in a collaborative team environment.
  • Self-starter, proactive.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Access
 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous co-op experience within an industrial environment a plus
  • Experience in high speed manufacturing environment a plus
  • Proven problem solving/conflict resolution skills; be able to think through issues and arrive at well-thought conclusions.
