Process Engineering - Intern

JOB SUMMARY 
The Process Engineer (Facilities) Interns performs specific engineering/construction management tasks on individual process engineering projects with the assistance of and under the supervision of the lead project engineers. Serves as the lead on assigned tasks under the supervision of the Assistant Manager - Process Engineering. Prepare calculations, piping & instrumentation/flow diagrams (P&IDs), physical drawing design/drafting assistance, evaluate assignments for process improvements, finished product quality, safety, cost. Will be required to work with outside suppliers, contractors and consultants on the specific projects as assigned. Will be required to perform field survey/review of existing systems. Will attend department project, staff and safety meetings, expected to exercise some judgment and make decisions on assigned projects. 
EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Evaluation/improvement of electroplating, waste treatment, phosphating, painting, vacuum systems, cleaning system processes, material handling. 
  • Modify/update drawings and other engineering/construction documents. 
  • Prepare schedules for specific construction/rearrangement projects. 
  • Prepare some basic engineering calculations. 
  • Collect compile and distribute equipment installation, operation and maintenance manuals for new equipment purchases. 
  • Perform field survey work necessary to validate layouts/plans prior to and verify work in place during and after construction and/or rearrangement. 
  • Perform field survey work necessary to accurately transcribe existing building plans into CAD based drawings. 
  • Prepare cost estimates for specific design packages
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • minimum two years of education towards a Bachelor's or Master's in engineering, materials science, or chemistry degree. Returning to school upon completion of internship.
  • Able to commute and work On-Site at our S&C Headquarters located in Rogers Park, Chicago, IL.
  • Able to work Full-Time over Summer 2023.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications
  • Basic drafting/design skills necessary to read and understand drawings
  • Knowledge of CAD
  • Coursework in Unit Ops, Fluids, Heat Transfer preferred
