Spring Intern, Issue Advocacy

Issue Advocacy Department Intern

Today, Vital Voices has a staff of 80 headquartered in Washington, DC. In the past few years, we have expanded our remote team with staff members living across the country and globally. In the next few years, we intend to expand our reach and scale our impact by growing our staff to meet the dynamic needs of our team and network women in this evolving landscape. 

Position Description: 

The Vital Voices team is seeking a motivated intern who will join the Issue Advocacy department and provide research and programming support for the various programs housed under Issue Advocacy, including but not limited to the VV Engage Fellowship, VAV Fellowship, VV Peace Fellowship, Women Lead India, and more. The Intern will support the of the teams by gathering knowledge and resources related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), human rights, women’s political empowerment, WPS (women, peace, and security), climate change, and gender-based violence. The Intern will work across a portfolio of projects alongside and learning from cross-functional teams with leaders and peers with varying backgrounds, education, and experiences.  

This position reports to the Issue Advocacy Program Coordinator.  

We are accepting interns on either a full-time or part time basis. The internship requires a commitment of 40 hours per week for full-time interns or 20 hours a week for part-time interns. The position is unpaid, but students will receive a stipend of $1000 per month for full time interns or $500 per month for part time interns and/or may receive academic credit for their experience in cooperation with their university. We are currently accepting applications for the Spring semester. Spring internships will run ideally from January 30th (negotiable) through mid-May. 

Interns can either be remote or based in DC.

Responsibilities: 

  • Researching and preparing program content and materials  
  • Participating in and supporting webinars and educational sessions with program participants  
  • Managing applications and fellow information in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, such as Salesforce 
  • Drafting social media content and tracking social media activity related to fellowships  
  • Supporting local, domestic and international development and advocacy efforts and opportunities  
  • Analyzing survey data and preparing reporting materials as necessary  
  • Assisting with the logistics and implementation of local, domestic and international programs 
  • Administrative tasks are necessary 
  • Translations of program materials as necessary  
  • Other related duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or recent university graduate 
  • Majoring in public policy, political science, government, foreign/international affairs, gender studies, or other related fields  
  • Independent workers, but also team oriented and professional  
  • Self-starter 
  • Interest in and knowledge of global women’s issues, international development, and/or women’s leadership 
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail 
  • Strong research, writing, analytical and editing skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple tasks 
  • Excellent communications and digital media skills 
  • Experience with Excel, Word, online portal management, document formatting
