Engineer in Training

For an Engineer-In-Training, our Engineering Assistant Program is ideal for a new engineer who would like to gain valuable experience and impact public safety statewide. You will obtain a lot of knowledge and skills as you rotate through the program and acquire professional resources as TxDOT helps you prepare for your Professional Engineer (PE) License.

Engineering Assistant I:
Salary Grade B17 ($36,976 - $58,399 annually)
Performs entry-level engineering work. Work involves job rotation, training and continuing education in design, construction, construction inspection, maintenance, surveying, environmental and transportation operations-related activities with the intent to actively pursue engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer who has authority for final approval of all projects. Work requires some contact with local governmental representatives, engineering contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Engineering Assistant II:
Salary Grade B18 ($39,521 - $64,449 annually)
Performs engineering work. Work involves job rotation, training and continuing education in design, construction, construction inspection, maintenance, surveying, and environmental and transportation operations-related activities with the intent to actively pursue engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer who has the authority for the final approval of all projects. Work requires some contact with local governmental representatives, engineering contractors and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
