Engineer, Manufacturing Excellence (Operational Excellence Team) Remote

Stanley Black & Decker has embarked on a transformation of its global supply chain and one of the main workstreams of this program is ‘Manufacturing Excellence’. This workstream is responsible for the implementation of sustainable operational improvements that will translate into financial benefits for the company.

To support this workstream, Stanley Black & Decker is building a world-class Manufacturing Excellence team that will work closely with manufacturing leadership and their teams to deliver these improvements.

The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer will be involved with site-based transformation activities where they will be responsible for the delivery of discrete manufacturing improvement workstreams. This will involve shop floor-based improvement activities and training/coaching of various operations teams.

Knowledge and use of the Stanley Production System will ensure the sustainability of the improvement actions.

Responsibilities

  • Be a key member of a Fast Forward Site (12 weeks) deployment or a targeted improvement intervention (4 weeks)
  • Assume responsibility for an operational improvement workstream(s) that will require the development of a workstream charter, a detailed work plan, and the identification of operational and financial KPIs to measure the progress of the improvement actions
  • Ability to review/assess operational data and implement action plans to close gaps
  • Ability to understand operational KPI’s to determine appropriate responses to close gaps
  • Drive operational improvement through the implementation of Lean standard tools and concepts such as Flow, Standard Work, 5S, Visual Management, SMED, Poka-Yoke, PDCA, TPM, etc.
  • Coach shop floor-based personnel including makers, supervisors, and managers in new ways of working
  • Support codification of any newly developed approaches, methodologies, and results

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Manufacturing experience in line responsibility and/or experience with the main manufacturing functions: production, maintenance, quality, production engineering, internal logistics, and launch (NPI)
  • Prior operational consulting experience desired
  • Lean / CI methodologies experience in operations
  • Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement certification desired
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile, or other project management certification preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Teams
  • Ability to travel up to 70-80% of the time, global and domestic, travel % may vary based on business needs
