Test Technician III

Basic Purpose of Position:  Support production with test activities including initial setup and training of functional testing equipment; ICT, Flying Probe, AOI, X-ray, and ESS (vibration thermal testing) testing activities; development of test procedures; troubleshooting of CCAs and box level assemblies. Set up troubleshooting stations with common test equipment (power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.) to facilitate root cause analysis. Work with engineering personnel to develop new or evaluate and adjust existing processes. 

Responsibilities:
  • SAFETY:  Ensure that all assignments are performed in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Provincial and Company safety and health regulations, and where applicable, proper personal protective equipment is utilized.
  • QUALITY: Ensure that all work being performed, products and processes meet or exceed Spartronics quality standards and customer expectations. 
  • Assist Engineering in planning, data gathering and set-up of process controls/studies and inspection requirements.
  • Assist production technicians in troubleshooting board and box level assembly failures to component level using schematics and common test equipment (DMMs, Power Supplies, Signal Generators, Oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Set up test equipment for troubleshooting various types of product.
  • Perform root cause analysis to determine if failures are product or test related.
  • Develop Functional test procedures.
  • Build custom fixtures for production testing from engineering instructions.
  • Perform ESS testing (vibration, thermal testing). Requires travel to vibration lab facility and scheduling ESS activities.
  • Support production with other test activities including: ICT, Flying Probe, AOI, and X-ray. 
  • Assist in the electronic repair of production machinery. (make machine adjustments, set up work area, and use tools such tools such as multi-meters and other devices to repair production equipment) 
  • Record performance results, analyze defect results, interpret variances or unpredicted changes in equipment or product which may affect results of operations and data gathering. Suggest resolution/solutions and may test and implement solutions.
  • Train Technicians and Operators to perform functional testing per procedures.
  • Expected liaison with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and customers/vendors.
  • Determine parts needed to repair production equipment using equipment manuals and manufacturer’s technical support resources and complete requisition forms to order these parts. May also be required to manage inventory of spare parts and research alternate suppliers or perform cost comparisons to generate cost savings.
  • Facilitate various maintenance and calibration services performed by equipment manufacturers and third party suppliers. 
  • Assist with relocation of production equipment in manufacturing areas. Work with Facilities Maintenance Dept. to disconnect, place equipment in a state safe for movement, level, align, connect data and control wiring, setup and test production equipment to validate proper operation after reinstallation.
  • Work with Engineering personnel to introduce new product or processes, evaluate/adjust existing processes, perform DOE studies, make modifications to equipment.
  • Download and analyze data from configuration management and production control applications to identify failure trends. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • US Citizen or Lawful US Permanent Resident is a requirement per International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR"). 
  • Electronics Technician Diploma or Associate’s Degree in related field; or comparable vocational-technical certificate, military technical training; or combination of education/experience in related field; 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows based PC applications (especially Microsoft Office)
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice with minimal supervision to meet delivery deadlines. May also be required to be on call after assigned shift is completed.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follows complex schematic diagrams, assembly drawings and test specifications.
  • Good math fundamentals, communications and problem-solving skills, or circuit analysis skills, and/or experience in functional and in-circuit tests.
  • May be required to be familiar with hazardous chemicals, hazardous wastes, bio-hazards, chemical hygiene.
  • May be required to maintain certification to Advanced Soldering Workmanship Standards and ESD precautions as determined by facility.
  • May be required to attend manufacturers training offsite to acquire specific advanced diagnostic skills to support production equipment.
  • Ability to travel using personal reliable transportation in support of manufacturing, test, vendor or customer needs.
