Electrical Product Engineer Internship

Summary:

The Electrical Product Design Engineer will be working within our Engineering group to design and manage projects for a wide variety of specialized HVACR equipment including controls and electrical systems. Research and specify new and alternate electrical components where necessary.

Main responsibilities:

· Design of innovative new controls and electrical products as well as upgrading the design of existing products to increase quality and safety or reduce cost.
· Build working prototypes or demo models.
· Design single-phase and three-phase AC electrical HVACR control systems (e.g. electric box layouts, electro-mechanical components, sheet metal design, and wiring diagrams)
· Design products and components utilizing prescribed tools such as QFD, CAD, DFMA and DFMEA’s in accordance with Dometic and ISO9001 requirements and procedures.
· Participate in the full development cycle, from requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, validation, documentation and ongoing support.
· Circuit design including schematic, layout and component selection.
· Support real-time firmware development team for micro-controllers.
· Coordinate and lead design reviews and design FMEA’s
· Provide product management at group level to manage shared divisional resources, for instance, User Interface, Firmware and Applications
· Work with the drafting department in preparation of drawings, schematics, etc., necessary for the development of new products
· Develop component specifications for the purchasing department and evaluate alternate parts offered by purchasing and outside vendors.
· Review and evaluate design solutions to meet cost and functional targets.
· Review and approve design validation and functional test plans for new products/designs; ensure delivery and quality applications
· Review and provide technical direction for product solutions to meet design requirements.
· Ensure all new products meet current ABYC and NEC electrical standards.
· Coordinate all engineering documentation including Bills of Materials, drawings, work instructions, and all pertinent information to support the manufacturing of controls and electrical products.
· Estimate project design costs and timelines; coordinate activities and resource planning.
· May be required to act as Project Manager for electrical/control projects.
· Conduct testing and collect data on components and controls.
· Prepare information for testing laboratories, CSA, ETL, CE, RCM.
· Keep abreast of competitive products and engineering developments in the HVAC industry.
· Conduct a continuous search for new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance and improve product.
· Identify market opportunities and research solutions.

  Qualifications and experience:

· Four-year engineering degree, BSEE or equivalent
· Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in Electrical or Controls Engineering
· Two years of HVAC experience
· Two years of experience in engineering project management

· Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint; and the ability to learn other applications quickly.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
· Ability to work well independently and as part of a strong team.
· Proven experience with electronics, analog, power and digital circuit design.
· Strong understanding of hardware/software interface issues and understanding of hardware system designs.
· Working knowledge of safety regulations (UL, CSA, CE and other regulatory requirements).
· Familiar with QFD, Design and Process FMEAs.
