Mechanical Engineering Intern

Description:  The Mechanical Engineering Intern will conduct routine engineering tasks to support several departments including, but not limited to, New Product Development, Infrared Systems, Fiber Delivery Systems, and manufacturing. The Intern will be exposed to the lens design process, proprietary software development process, and manufacturing process in order to facilitate an effective internship

Reports to: Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager         


Job Functions/Requirements/Responsibilities:

Primary job functions are listed below but may change without notice.

·        Complete Document Change Orders (DCOs) in accordance with ISO 9001 document control processes to releases new drawings and update existing ones
·        Develop and design simple tools and fixtures using Pro/Engineer (CREO) and/or SolidWorks
·        Aid in the multi-software development process of LightPath Technologies proprietary design automation systems in order to expedite the design and development of optical components and systems
·        Organize and maintain LightPath’s digital engineering library
·        Support manufacturing tasks through spreadsheet analysis and documentation of process work instructions
·        Support LightPath’s MRP system, Infor VISUAL, by entering new part information, bill of materials and general upkeep
·        Provide support for LightPath’s technical literature through research and experimentation
·        Improve and organize engineering and manufacturing facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

·        Stop any nonconforming process(es) which may affect poor quality or customer satisfaction
·        May provide direction and instruction for any employees that may not directly report to this position
 
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills Required:
·        Fast learner, driven problem solver
·        Outgoing personality
·        A basic understanding and experience with following software would be advantageous:
o  Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, VISUAL BASIC, Microsoft Access, Infor VISUAL, and SQL Server
·        Proactive, humble, and easy to work with others
·        Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear
·        Occasional walking and standing, reaching with hands and arms, balancing and stooping, or kneeling required
·        Occasional lifting and /or moving up to 20 pounds required
·        Ability to work with moderate noise level
·        Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English

Minimum Previous Experience/Qualifications:
·        Be a “U.S. person” either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, refugee, person granted asylum, or permanent resident due to company ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulation) projects
·        Active student pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar field at an accredited institution
·        Must have Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status with plans to graduate between December 2023 and May 2025
