Salary: ACE A, step A to P ($42,800 to $61,722 ), DOE
Job Summary
The ASD Print Shop Operator produces and handles printed materials for the Anchorage School District. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).
Job Requirements
The following are required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in digital printing, including at least one year in a high-volume digital copy or print shop.
- Knowledge of word processing concepts and techniques.
- Skills in editing and proofreading.
- Good communication, collaboration, and customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to review and interpret detail-oriented information and reports.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a condensed window of time.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of printing equipment such as cutters, binders, collators and wide format printers as well as perform finishing work on various projects.
- Ability to operate Windows and/or Macintosh computers and related software.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
The following is preferred:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
Essential Job Functions
- Produces documents using high-volume digital printers and wide format machines and routes jobs to other facilities as needed.
- Organizes and schedules incoming work requests, orders supplies, and monitors production.
- Thoroughly reviews assigned print request tickets and associated documents.
- Determines special printing and graphic image manipulation requirements.
- Downloads digitized documents and graphic images from various networked sources.
- Lays out and manipulates documents and graphic images, proofs edited layouts, and executes document print runs.
- Collates, binds, trims, folds, and finishes printed material.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Cleans and otherwise maintains printing and related equipment.
- May train other operators in the use of equipment and advanced digital printing techniques.
- May perform other custom service functions to meet customer needs.
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
