41000453 Administrative Secretary

The Corrections Litigation Bureau, General Civil Litigation Division, of the Office of the Attorney General, is comprised of trial attorneys who represent the State of Florida and its employees in civil actions brought on behalf of or by inmates in Florida’s correctional institutions. Representation primarily involves defending lawsuits alleging civil rights violations, typically under the First, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution. The attorneys in this branch also defend the constitutionality of state statutes and handle extraordinary writ petitions. The practice encompasses the full range of a trial practice, from initial pleadings in federal and state courts through trial and appeals.

Requirements

Three years of secretarial or clerical work experience;
or possession of a Certified Professional Secretary Certificate.
College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience.
Vocational/technical training in an area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.
A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess legal secretarial experience, good computer skills, and good verbal and writing skills.

Preference will also be given to those candidates with knowledge and skills in the legal, criminal justice or court systems.
Essential knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) are:
· ability to organize both electronic and physical documents;
· ability to receive direction and follow written/verbal instructions;
· ability to carry out tasks in accordance with precise Corrections Bureau protocol;
· knowledge of varying formatting, rules and procedures pertaining to letters, forms and legal documents;
· ability to prioritize and organize work product;
· strong communication skills;
· ability to use, or learn to use computers for tasks such as data entry and word processing;
· able to prioritize multiple new daily assignments and to meet daily deadlines;
· ability to work well in a team atmosphere; to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with others.
