Health Scientist Administrator (Scientific Review Officer & Program Officer)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the largest biomedical research funding organization in the world. NIH is made up of 27 Institutes and Centers, with a specific research agenda, often focusing on particular diseases or body systems. The NIH invites applications for a professional track in one of our 27 Institutes and Centers. The National Institutes of Health has a number of Health Scientist Administrator vacancies. The salaries for these positions are based upon individual qualifications and professional experience. As a Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer), you will stimulate, plan, direct, and evaluate activities for a portfolio of research projects, research program and other grant/awards, cooperative agreements, and/or contracts in the assigned program area and the discovery, development and evaluation of associated prevention and therapeutic strategies.
 
As a Health Scientist Administrator (Scientific Review Officer), you will be responsible for the initial administrative and scientific merit review of grant applications for research programs and/or research training and career development grants through interaction with established scientists in a variety of fields. You will assure the fairness and consistency of the scientific peer review process and provide guidance on peer review policies and procedures to applicants, reviewers, and Institute staff.
