Job Opening Controls Automation Engineer

MAPEI is actively recruiting for a Controls Automation Engineer that will lead electrical projects including PLC/HMI programming, equipment commissioning and design and troubleshooting of industrial electrical systems. This position will be located in West Chicago, IL. 


What we'll expect of you:

  • In coordination with the Commissioning Manager, develop the plans for assigned projects.
  • Maintain all PLC, SCADA and DCS systems in accordance with applicable codes and regulations (i.e. NEC, NFPA, NEIS, IEEE)
  • Program PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems for new or modified equipment
  • Lead all troubleshooting and training of automated systems for plants, commissioning and start up
  • Work with Electrical Engineers and Commissioning Engineer to ensure PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS and I/O’s are within proper parameters to meet equipment and system specifics
  • Assist with all new all electrical projects, integration, and installations for new construction and continuous improvement projects
  • Lead the programming, development, set up and commission of automation systems including training, troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Work with contractors and suppliers to install, troubleshooting and maintain automation and equipment including working with low to medium voltage up to 480V systems
  • Design wiring diagrams, electrical connections/connection points, circuit boards, layouts of control systems, electrical schematics and single line diagrams utilizing electrical CAD design software
  • Provide process hazard analysis as it relates to electrical safety and security.
  • Travel to project sites to ensure projects tasks are on-time and engineering goals and timeframe

 

Things you've likely accomplished:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 7-10 years of managing automation projects including PLC programming and system development
  • Experience programming Siemens SIMATIC Step 7 PLC and HMIs or Omron PLCs and HMIs is required
  • Experienced with Siemens or Omron PLCs, SCADA systems or HMIs is a plus
  • Must be able to travel to support plant startups and capital equipment projects
