Process Engineer - Melt Shop

Position Overview
Commercial Metals Company is looking for a Process Engineer to join our Melt Shop team at our steel micro mill in Durant, OK. The Process Engineer will monitor shop processes daily to ensure all are within normal operating parameters and if not, determine cause and recommend corrections necessary. This individual will be responsible for process stabilization and improvement in all shop areas with primary importance including the electric arc furnace, ladle furnace and caster. This also includes procedure review, creation and training. This position reports directly to the Melt Shop Department Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Monitor shop performance and processes daily for operation within established parameters.
• Determine causes for deviation and recommend corrections.
• Provide reporting daily, weekly and monthly to document shop performance against established key performance indicators.
• Investigate and recommend process, procedure, training or equipment needs to continually improve performance.
• Work with shop department managers and shift managers to optimize personnel and process execution for consistent performance and continuous process improvement.
• Work with Quality Assurance Department to monitor product quality and identify and correct any deviations.
• Work with Training Department to develop and assist teaching operator development classes.
• Assist in training new shop personnel in production environment.
• Interact with company personnel resources external to plant about process performance and improvement.
• Initiate communication with resources external to company (suppliers and contractors) for consistency and improvement initiatives.
• Willing and able to work nights and weekends as necessary to support operational needs.

Experience and Skill Requirements
• Basic knowledge of electric furnace, ladle furnace and continuous casting operations preferred.
• Wide ranging communication skills both verbal and written to influence operators, supervisors and support staff both in the department and external to the department.
• Highly technical, detail oriented, organized and self-starter.
• Willingness and ability to work hands-on in the shop with operators on flexible schedules.

Education Requirements
B.S. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required.
