SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - POWERTRAIN

Job Summary:

The Powertrain Engineering Division is seeking a talented and highly motivated senior engineer to assist in the design, integration and calibration of hybridized and electrified powertrains for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV). Our work is contract R&D for a diverse set of customers around the world, including both commercial and government projects. The primary focus of this position would be to lead medium to large projects (>$250k) involving hybridized powertrains, mentor junior level engineers and participate in new business development activities. There will be responsibilities for project sales or revenue generation of $500k to $1M (depending on title). In addition to the core job functions, a candidate for this position would also be expected to maintain a position of significance in professional organizations, such as SAE, through authoring papers, organizing sessions and giving invited lectures, and to use this time to expose the candidate to broad industry trends. The candidate would be expected to use this knowledge to provide input to section and department management and to participate in technology investment/divestment decisions. Candidates with demonstrated success mentoring junior engineers and leading high performance teams will be considered for future leadership positions. Travel to customer work sites for project updates and to promote future business is required and generally occurs at least once every other month. The worldwide customer base requires travel within the US and abroad to Europe and Asia.


Education/Experience:

Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive Engineering with at least a 3.0 GPA. MS or Ph.D. degrees are preferred. Must have 7 – 15 years of Experience designing or calibrating light-duty, medium-duty or heavy-duty HEVs or PHEVs for a car/engine manufacturer, Tier 1 supplier, or an engineering services provider and 5+ project management experience. The candidate must have proven experience designing, integrating and/or calibrating hybridized and/or electrified powertrains. Required skills include: Knowledge of hybrid/electrification technology within passenger car, medium duty, or heavy duty applications; hybrid/electric powertrain functionality knowledge, and calibration/optimization experience (including high voltage electrical systems); Battery Management System development and integration; traction motor/inverter development and integration. Candidate must be committed to continuous professional development. Proficiency in the use of MS Office products is required. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
