RESEARCH ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - LARGE ENGINE DESIGN

Job Summary:

Support Powertrain Design and Development Department efforts in engine performance development and engine calibration; conduct engine calibration for production development; interface with control system engineering to define system requirements for emissions control systems; specify instrumentation and calibration requirements; prepare and present data in accordance to project deliverables; work in a strong international team environment; appropriately task laboratory staff to achieve project deliverables; ensure project activities are aligned with Institute and Division safety and quality standards; engage in project management; participate in business development activities including marketing and proposal preparation for existing and new clients.

Education/Experience:

Requires a BS degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or a related field with 3-10 years experience. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Must have demonstrated hands on experience with automotive, agricultural or industrial machinery, along with strong mechanical aptitude and user level knowledge of control systems. Must possess a strong interest in engines and engine related topics, have understanding and knowledge related to internal combustion engine thermodynamics, and be familiar with the general engine design and development process. Experience with modern diesel or gasoline combustion and emissions systems testing and 1D engine simulation is a plus. Must be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills; must have experience with PC-based presentation, spreadsheet, data processing, and word processing software; knowledge of computer control and data acquisition is desired; must be self-motivated and highly organized; must be capable of effectively and efficiently communicating with, directing, and coordinating laboratory technical staff; must be able to travel, multi-task between different projects, and work independently with a minimal amount of supervision. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
