Intern, Software Engineering

Position Summary:
Sony Corporation of America (SCA), is seeking an Intern, Software Engineering to join the Global Information Security & Privacy (GIS&P) organization in Herndon, VA for the 2019 summer internship program. This position will assist the FlexDev team within the Continuous Operations, Development, & Engineering (CODE) team in developing, implementing, testing and managing enterprise-wide systems supporting risk and compliance management to secure Sony’s information assets, services, and the products that depend on them, building trust with customers and stakeholders, and protecting the privacy of Sony’s customers and employees. This position is for those interested in pursuing a career in FlexDev, software engineering, or software development on a global scale.
The GIS&P summer internship program runs for twelve weeks beginning in May and ending in August. Our program is designed to provide skills, knowledge, and hands-on work experience in the information security and privacy industry, supporting the personal growth of our interns as well as Sony business results. This role is a fulltime, paid internship.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with researching, designing, developing, and testing applications that utilize SOAP and RESTful APIs, and/or applications that utilize Splunk queries and dashboards
  • Support data management activities
  • Track requirements, progress, and communication through Gitlab through the lifetime of any issue or enhancement request
  • Document and support CODE/FlexDev projects
  • Assist with developing information security applications and data visualizations throughout the software development life cycle
  • Collaborate and participate in peer reviews, pair programming and group programming
  • Work with stakeholders to elicit and elaborate project requirements
  • Work within an agile environment to prioritize, plan and implement releases
Qualifications
  • Meets one or more of the following requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program
  • Currently enrolled in a technical or certificate program
  • Recent graduate of a degree-seeking or technical program, within one year of completion
  • Preferred education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security or Information Assurance, or related field with strong academic performance
  • Experience with either JavaScript or Python required
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Java, C# or Splunk preferred
  • Experience with Gitlab, or other source code repository systems preferred
  • Experience with issue management systems preferred
  • Experience with SOAP and/or RESTful APIs preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and quickly apply new concepts to accomplish assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience through work or internship preferred
