Ground Based Strategic Deterrent Environmental Infrastructure Engineering Intern (Summer 2019 - Clearance Req.)

The ICBM System Program Office Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Division is in the acquisition of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system to replace the Minuteman III. In order to successfully field a new weapon system, the GBSD program requires a comprehensive product support strategy that ensures the system can be operated, maintained and sustained well into the future.

This position will directly support the government’s GBSD Product Support Manager (PSM) in development and deployment of the product support strategy to meet GBSD Program requirements and timelines throughout the phases of the acquisition. This is a position for a fulltime Safety, Health, & Environmental (S.H.E.) Intern working to provide support to the SHE function and assists the Senior Principle Scientist with the development of safety, health and environmental documents. Primarily, the SHE Intern will support development and analysis of Prime Contractor designs that relate to the SHE aspects of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). Designs will be analyzed against customer, federal, state and local safety, health and environmental regulations. These tasks will include the generation of reports, meeting minutes, the potential presentation of material and analysis of sensitive data associated with the GBSD weapon system and includes the following tasks:

1. Review Programmatic Environmental Safety & Health Evaluation (PESHE) requirements associated with the GBSD weapon system against Prime Contractor data and GBSD requirements.
2. Assist in the development of a GBSD PESHE.
3. Review Executive Order 12114, 32 CFR 989 and 40 CFR 1500-1508 National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements germane to the Air Force and its potential actions abroad.
4. Review Prime Contractor information and compare their design information against NEPA requirements.
5. Assist in the development of NEPA and Environmental Analysis Impact Process (EIAP) documents in support of the GBSD weapon system.
