Sr. Factory Service Engineer - Liquid Handling

Senior Factory Service Engineer, Liquid Handling


Join our operations team as a Factory Service Engineer working to fully automate genome engineering. You will be a key member of the Service Engineering team responsible for characterizing and modifying core automated workflows, developing equipment documentation and SOPs, recommending advanced automation equipment as well as their acceptance criteria and training users in best practices.

What You'll Do

  • Be accountable for the troubleshooting and root cause investigation to service and repair integrated robotic workflows in our CRISPR and Engineered Cells laboratories
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assist in developing our next generation instrumentation, new platform migrations, and next generation scripts to expand our ever growing businesses
  • Interface with lab personnel providing the highest level of professional service and support
  • Be responsible for maintenance and calibration tasks to keep our robotics and instrumentation running at peak performance
  • Create, maintain, and review various SOP documentation for training and support
  • Continuously optimize processes to increase both quality and efficiency


About You

  • B.S. in Engineering / Science or equivalent experience servicing and repairing complex laboratory instrumentation
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with liquid handling instruments, ideally the Hamilton STAR family
  • Proven hands on involvement with manual mechanical / electrical / software tasks
  • Instrument problem solving / troubleshooting / root cause analysis skills
  • Experience with automation projects that dealt with instruments such as: PCR, purification, single strand separation, thermocyclers, centrifuges, plate sealer / peeler, and BMG cell imaging - as well as a wide array of on-deck small peripherals
  • Proficiency working with automation engineers and development scientists implementing and validating automated processes
  • Performed liquid class calibrations for a variety of reagents
  • Scientific instrumentation software experience a must
  • Independently driven, able to prioritize multiple tasks, organized and a critical thinker


Nice to Haves

  • Experience with integrated robotic systems (High Res System: A-Cell, Ambistore, Cellario) is a plus.
  • Familiar with computer networking 
  • Ability to quickly become an advanced user of new software and coding (Python, Unix, OSX, Windows)
  • Software troubleshooting experience is a plus
  • Small project manufacturing experience is a plus (Mechanical assemblies, PCB mounting, working with CAD)
  • Experiencing working within the regulations of a GMP lab is a plus
