Quality Engineer

As an individual contributor, the Quality Engineer will be responsible for supporting project development lifecycle from Planning, Requirements Design, Built, Test and Delivery phases of product that meet Draper Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 9001:2015 and Customer specific requirements.
The individual will work with Program Manager, Technical Director and team of engineers, developers on test requirements, manufacturing process and product, and test equipment. The position is located at Draper Laboratory in Cambridge MA. Specific responsibilities include the following.
 
  • Responsible for collaborating with design, test and process engineers to develop and optimize product design performance for internal and external standards and requirements
  • Responsible for quality oversight of test, troubleshoot, repair and rework activities
  • Apply QMS policy, process, procedure and especially best engineering practices to program execution, to ensure project meet customer requirements and comply with ISO 9001:2015 standard
  • Manage project non-conformances through Material Review Board (MRB) or FRB activities, and review quality inspection records to disposition parts or CCAs
  • Analyze engineering and/or QMS data and implement analysis techniques to monitor process trends to drive process efficiencies and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate analytical and strong problem solving skill by applying engineering data driven decision to generate internal Root Cause and Corrective Actions, and issue Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) to manage recurring defects
  • Participate and conduct internal QMS process and project audits to support Quality Management System implementation and effectiveness
 

Qualifications


It is important that this individual be a self-starter and able to interface at multiple levels within the program and engineering organization. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to readily adapt to changing priorities are required. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
  • Experience in engineering, prototype and production environments
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical parts specifications and with circuit card assembly
  • Proficiency in understanding documenting plans, procedures and results for presenting to a technical audience.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working at a high technical level with minimal supervision
  • An engineering Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Five years of experience as a Quality Engineer or equivalent electronics manufacturing experience with demonstrable skills in root cause, corrective action, opportunities for improvement and process control
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience with Quality Standards ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100
  • Ability for occasional domestic travel
  • The applicant selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government security clearance
