Electrical Technician

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for almost six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations.

SDL is seeking a senior electronics technician for development programs located at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico. This work supports the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate and focuses on research and development of electronic components that can operate reliably in or through high radiation environments, such as for space-based assets. Devices of interest can range from simple diodes to complex microprocessors, programmable logic devices, or Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC). This position requires occasional short-term travel. Generally, travel is infrequent, is within the US, and is for short durations (less than 1 week).

Key Responsibilities:
·  Help design and develop radiation-tolerant electronic devices
·  Set up and configure devices for environmental testing and/or radiation testing
·  Design, assemble, and validate test fixtures
·  Test, troubleshoot, and repair equipment configurations, test setups, and assemblies
·  Design, build, and test breadboards and prototypes of new designs an engineering lab environment
·  Develop and/or review test plans and test procedures
·  Operate test equipment, radiation sources, and electronic components during bench test, characterization, and radiation exposure tests
·  Capture test data and analyze test results
·  Prepare test reports
·  Evaluate circuitry to apply practical design factors affecting fabrication techniques or processes
·  Assist thermal engineers in applying thermal design factors
·  Apply statistical process controls to fabrication processes
·  Generate, update, and maintain engineering drawings and related documentation
·  Identify and/or evaluate current industry trends, emerging processes, emerging materials, or potential problems in electronic device development and fielding
·  Attend and participate in relevant conferences or seminars
·  Provide expert advice on best practices and potential problems related to electronic component design, function, fabrication, and test

Required Qualifications:
·  Minimum 15 years’ experience working in a research and development laboratory environment
·  Minimum 5 years’ practical hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting electronics bench set-ups involving components and assemblies
·  Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
·  Must be a US citizen

Preferred Qualifications:
·  Electronics engineering technology degree
