Busy and established intellectual property law firm in South Florida seeks a soon to graduate senior engineering student or recent graduate from the FIU College of Engineering. Candidate must have a strong technical background in any Engineering, Computer Science, or high-tech discipline.
 
This position is a great fit for someone interested in helping clients strategically develop patent portfolios to protect their cutting-edge technology. While we are looking for a long-term fit, we would also consider hiring a candidate with an interest in law school, as the work of the Patent Agent is a great introduction to patents and the law. Bilingual is a plus but not required. Must have excellent research & writing skills. Must be well organized and a self-starter. Compensation is competitive but begins at least around $60,000

 
We will train you to consult with clients, draft patent applications, Patent Office Action Responses, and correspond with the Patent Office regarding required filings during the prosecution of the patent. The firm will also pay the cost of the Patent Bar Exam for the selected candidate to be registered as a Patent Agent with the United States Patent Office.

·     Must be eligible and willing to sit for the patent bar.

·     Candidate must be positive and willing to learn and accept constructive criticism positively.

·     Candidate must be able to multi-task and be a great team player as the position requires heavy client interaction and constant communication with various fellow coworkers.

·     Candidate must also be able to continuously follow up on pending items.

·     The right candidate will have a proactive personality with excellent customer service skills as well as ability to work under moderate supervision on a majority of tasks.

Experience:
No patent law or any legal experience necessary as the selected candidate will be trained on the job. We only hire people who are smart, curious, creative, proactive, team players. We are looking for people excited about technology, patents, and innovation to join our Miami-based patent law firm.

Main Duties Include:
·   Administer and maintain dockets for patents.
·     Communicating with clients to understand inventions and obtain information necessary for patent prosecution.
·     Drafting patent applications and drafting responses to Office Actions.
·     Perform all other essential duties as assigned.
