Driver Assist Technologies Application Software Architect

In Product Development, we make driving more exciting, enjoyable and sustainable. Ford’s Safety Electronics team designs and develops hardware and functional models that provide Best in Class behavior for features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Cross Traffic Alert, Active Park Assist and 360 Camera Systems.  

We are seeking seasoned professionals who can contribute to our efforts with experience in the development of sensors, ECUs, models, and software. This position is focused on the architecture and development of new features along with integration into a central active safety ECU, but could also involve other elements of the process as we seek to add high quality people to the team.

 
Responsibilities 
 
  • Lead effort to provide common DAT application software product development architectural practices
  • Interface with Technical Expert, Features, Systems, Algorithm, and Software communities in translating DAT application feature specifications into software functional requirements and software architectural specifications
  • Partner with Feature Owners to derive application software architectural solutions that meet feature requirements
  • Provide technical feedback to Feature Owners related to feature specifications
  • Provide de facto technical guidance and leadership to the broader DAT application software engineering teams on all matters related to system design to ensure that common goals are met
  • Create the necessary DAT application software architectural documentation to enable software development and test teams
  • Review, provide feedback, and approve development technical documentation (High Level Designs, Detailed Designs)
  • Understand sensor system interactions in terms of vehicle dynamics to identify possible improvements and trade-offs. Identify changes needed to improve performance and meet objectives
  • Provide technical guidance to suppliers pertaining to overall application framework software design, ensuring well defined interfaces between Ford and supplier software implementations
  • Support Agile software methodologies within the broader application software team
  • Provide guidance in terms of feature Epic and Story creation and prioritization
  • Identify areas of technology focus and push technology to achieve and maintain leadership for current and future generations of DAT hardware and software
Basic Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in embedded software product development within an electronics discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in C/C++ software development implementation
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded application product development in support of active safety features
  • 5+ years of experience working with product managers in translating product/feature specifications to software requirements, software architectural specifications, and software design specifications
Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience designing and testing complex embedded hardware architectures utilizing QNX RTOS or similar for high performance, high reliability computing applications
  • 5+ years of experience in integrating complex machine learning algorithms within application frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience related to DAT software feature development
  • Expert knowledge level with open source vision, sensor fusion and machine learning frameworks (OpenCV, ROS, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Caffe2, scikit-learn)
  • Relevant experience in all program phases from Pre-Program through Launch including one major program
  • Proven ability to deliver complex solutions in an intensely collaborative product creation environment
  • Team oriented, ability to work in cross functional groups and proven technical achievement
  • Excellent communication skills both vertically and horizontally within the organization related to all aspects of technical leadership – written and verbal
