Automation Engineer

Arthrex is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. We are actively seeking an Automation Engineer I to provide automation and equipment development and support expertise to the Final Device Assembly and Packaging engineering group. This engineer will be a resource for all activities required to build, program, install, debug, and implement automated equipment. The successful candidate will have strong communication and analytical skills, knowledge of manufacturing process and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support equipment builds and installations including panel wiring, mechanical component assembly, and programming.
  • Develop design concepts for improving or replacing manual packaging and device assembly processes.
  • Use CAD software to develop designs and schematics for automation equipment and fixtures.
  • Communicate design concepts to Management and Sr. Mfg. Engineers.
  • Manage projects and activities assigned using project management principles to ensure completion on time and within budget.
  • Prepares layouts and drawings of the assembly process and of parts to be manufactured.
  • Analyzes test results in relation to specifications and test objectives and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or processes
  • Support the activities of the Packaging Manufacturing Engineering group on automation or equipment projects relative to validations.
  • Support production as needed concerning equipment issues to minimize production down time.
  • Review and generate engineering change requests as required.
  • Communicate project or activity progress to Engineering Management, Sr. Mfg. Engineers, and cross-functional team members.
  • Manage all documentation required for projects and duties assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Automation, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro/Mechanical Engineering
  • 1 – 2 years equipment design and development experience preferred
  • Medical device or pharmaceutical experience preferred
  • Class 7 clean room experience preferred
 
Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing process
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic electronic, electrical and pneumatic circuit prints
  • Solidworks experience preferred
  • PLC programming experience
  • HMI programming experience
  • Experience programming a servo axis or robot
  • Experience with pneumatic circuits and components
  • Experience assembling mechanical components per print specifications
  • Experienced user of MS Office Suite
  • Basic understanding of Project Management Principles
 
Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
Working Knowledge of machine theory
 
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
 
Mathematical Skills
Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements. 
 
Language and Communication Skills:
Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management. Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
