The Role: The Inside Sales Engineer position will provide technical and commercial support to internal and external customers. Work efforts include heavy commercial support and moderate to increasingly complex level of technical support such as specification review, product selection and order feasibility; project management including order execution and follow up; external customer touch calls; and engagement in special projects to support continuous improvement to increase productivity and reduce cycle time for customer support while increasing legendary customer service.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
  • Provide heavy commercial support up to and including all aspects of order execution and follow up utilizing available quotation and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools as well as communicate with related internal and external customer and vendor contacts
  • Develop technical depth and understanding of Xylem product and application knowledge
  • Provide Aftermarket rental, replacement and retrofit product selections and conversion kits and develop related quotations as necessary
  • Provide inquiry to order commercial support with activities including solicitation of vendor quotes and customer quotation development and sales pipeline support that may include external touch calls to support outside sales or service teams
  • Support to sales channel partners and other external customers by providing pre through post-sales technical and commercial support with activities including: basic level Application Engineering support to external and internal customers with design and proposal of our systems; specification review for the purposes of identifying and facilitating pre-bid needs; and related follow up work that includes product selection, solicitation of vendor quotes, and customer quotation development
  • Fulfill project management for new build jobs with a primary emphasis on more technically complex Transport projects and/or basic level Treatment projects, including a full range of support from oversight of schedule and communication with all related Xylem departments and external customer and may include creation of technical manuals, order execution and follow-up
  • Daily utilization of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), quotation and  Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools to input new data and maintain existing data to current status to support internal and external customer interactions and needs
  • Create legendary customer service experiences for internal and external customers
  • Provide support as requested for the basic technical education and training on product application software tools, technical product information, process flow or general customer support to other sales support positions ≤ current level
  • Handle overflow from other sales support positions < current level
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in special projects to create best practices, improve processes, create training tools or to support Xylem initiatives as determined and conduct related presentations or training sessions
  • Conduct engineering/consulting firm, municipality and contractor touch calls as necessary to support outside sales by investigating potential opportunities and effectively communicate the value proposition of Xylem’s organizational support and product capabilities
 
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
  • 4-year degree in engineering
  • Technical knowledge as it relates to the understanding of engineered solutions equipment and related tools
  • Proficient in Adobe Pro and AutoCAD, Pro-E or Creo
  • Ability to gain expertise in Xylem required product configuration and selection tools
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Good collaborative and communication skills  (written and verbal)
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and task management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work with diverse workforce and customer base
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Salesforce.com Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Configure Price Quote (CPQ), and/or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools
  • Ability to train personnel to perform standard technically oriented work
