RESEARCH ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - MATERIALS

Job Summary:

Develop and lead the execution of projects designed to characterize the mechanical behavior of materials to support prediction of their performance. Apply fundamentals of solids mechanics to quantify and model/characterize mechanical performance. Areas of interest include environmentally-assisted fracture/fatigue, elastoplastic fracture, composites, and high temperature characterization. Apply broad range of expertise to support existing multidisciplinary program areas and to identify opportunities and develop proposals in the general area of mechanics of materials. Collaborate with senior staff and clients to cultivate new/expanded program areas.


Education/Experience:

Requires a PhD degree in Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent engineering degree, with focus on mechanics of materials with 0-5 years of experience in characterizing mechanical behavior of materials. Must have at least a 3.25 GPA. Requires demonstrated expertise and experience in solid mechanics, including combined experimental and analytical/numerical approaches. Requires experience or coursework in solid mechanics, experimental mechanics, fracture mechanics, and fatigue and fatigue crack growth. Requires familiarity with materials science, material processing, and environmental effects. Must have demonstrated ability to identify the source of client problems, apply a wide array of expertise to develop appropriate solutions, and work collaboratively to execute projects within budgetary and time constraints. Excellent interpersonal communications skills are required for interaction with senior staff, program teams, and clients. Must be able to work independently with relatively little supervision and function effectively as part of multidisciplinary project teams. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
This position requires passing the test.
