LABORATORY ASSISTANT - TECHNICIAN - MECHANICAL

The Applied Power Division is seeking a highly motivated lab assistant to work closely with and assist staff in performing various tasks both in and out of laboratory settings. The primary focus of this position is to support the division, as part of the logistics team, with day to day tasking including moving materials and equipment as required for work operations, operating simple computer programs using basic computer skills, maintaining inventory levels of equipment and supplies, and assisting other technicians and engineering staff as projects require. Occasional travel and overtime work is required on an as needed. The logistics team is comprised of technicians with backgrounds in electrical, electronics and controls, carpentry, plumbing and auto mechanics, as well as other mechanically inclined skill sets. This has equipped our team with the ability to adapt quickly to any given request and ensures that everyday provides a new challenge.


Education/Experience:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 0-5 years of experience. Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, auto mechanics, carpentry or other skilled trades is desired. Requires an interest in and ability to learn and perform work in a technical occupation. Knowledge of basic tools, equipment, and materials used in occupation or trade is required. Knowledge of safety, storage, cleaning, and proper lifting procedures, and the ability to use a personal computer is required. Individuals must have the ability to work closely team members or independently when necessary. Must have the ability to work under adverse conditions such as extreme climates, and exposure to heat, noise, chemicals, and fumes. Must be able to work overtime and weekends when needed. Must have the ability to safely use power and hand tools in performing maintenance, repair and modifications to test experiments and laboratory equipment. Must be able to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Strong communication skills are required. Must pass SwRI Mechanical Assessment test. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
This position requires passing the Mechanical Assessment test.
