Computational Fluid Dynamics Scientist/Engineer

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking driven individuals who enjoy challenging and impactful work in the modeling and simulation space. This position is for a scientist or engineer with a background in developing performant Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes or models. Qualified applicants will be adept at using advanced software development techniques in C/C++ to model the behavior of complex fluid dynamics and will be able to critically assess how best to simplify complex problems in order to reduce times to discovery. Much of the application of this work is for predicting weapon effects through modeling and simulation, so an emphasis on compressible flow modeling or combustion is preferable though not required.

Our teams have the opportunity to solve challenging problems and our work has an impact on national security. If your background includes experience using modeling & simulation to predict fluid dynamics then we highly encourage you to apply! You’ll also need a desire to work in a dynamic software development team environment (e.g., Agile, Scrum, XP practices)

Computational Fluid Dynamics Scientist/Engineer Requirements:
  • MS in mathematics, engineering, physics or a related discipline, PhD preferred
  • 0-2 years’ relevant work experience
  • Candidates selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Computational Fluid Dynamics Scientist/Engineer Preferences:
  • Expertise in numerical modeling and simulation technology
  • Familiarity with software design patterns and modern C++
  • Experience with fluid structure interaction modeling, particle transport, or even other non-CFD numerical modeling in addition to CFD experience is highly desirable
  • Multi-threading/shared memory parallel computing is a plus, and GPU computing even more so
