Acoustic Engineer 1

Job Description:

Responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of underwater transducer designs. Individual will be a key contributor in a team environment providing innovative design solutions to meet program requirements. Will support new transducer development through design support, acoustic-mechanical testing, transducer packaging, and system interfaces. Individual will be responsible for generating documentation during the design process including reports, compiling test data, BOMs and assembly instructions. Person will support the production floor with issues related to transducer manufacturing. Individual will also contribute to potting material evaluation/selection, transducer testing methodologies, wiring schemes, process refinement, and failure analysis.


Required Skills:
  • B.S. degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.


Desired Skills:
  • Experience with FEA modeling
  • Willing to generate scripts in VBA, Matlab, or equivalent for data processing and manipulation
  • Willing to develop lumped models for electro-mechanical system design and analysis.
  • Experience using test equipment such as DAQS, oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, dynamic signal analyzers, function generators, power supplies, and multi-meters.
  • Background in Material Science
  • Knowledge of vibration principles, structural mechanics, and failure analysis.
  • Understanding of basic electrical principles as related to an electro-mechanical device.
  • Familiarity with testing and data acquisition techniques
  • CAD experience (work or school) in Solidworks, Creo, or equivalent for detailed design of components/ assemblies and drawing generation.
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Have good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Requirements:
  • Willing to travel to company and government test facilities. Overnight travel will be required. Approximately 10% travel.
  • Normal color vision and manual dexterity
  • Willing to lift 40 pounds floor to waist height
  • Willing to use:
  • Solidworks
  • Microsoft office suite
  • General test equipment including DAQs and analyzers
  • Misc. hand tools
  • Mechanical measuring tools such as micrometers, dial calipers, etc.
