Estimating Associate

ESTIMATING ASSOCIATE

Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Lead Estimator. The Estimator is responsible for developing detailed takeoffs in accordance with industry standards. This individual should be able to completely take off a design document utilizing on-screen takeoff and input into an Excel estimate format sheet or a computerized estimating program. This individual will then be learning to price work utilizing either or both R.S. Means (online or book) and historical data to price the estimate. This individual will be able to price basic estimates. This individual should be able to search the internet and/or call for pricing on specific materials and/or equipment included in the estimate to confirm real pricing. This individual should also be able to develop takeoffs for estimates at every stage of a project including but not limited to budget development for a concept, schematic estimate, design development estimates, construction document estimates and special segment estimates.
Position Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for estimates accordance with industry standards.
  • Keep the Project Team abreast of all issues on you see on your assigned projects.
  • Be proactive in assisting Project Team in alerting them to issues on the project. Looking ahead to minimize issues and providing solutions as soon as possible.
  • All activities will be developed to reflect both the company culture and goal of the exceeding our client’s expectations.
  • Foster team work.
  • Experience with DOT (Roadways), Electrical, Mechanical and/or Plumbing a plus
  • Evaluation of Bid Specifications and Drawings.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and/or site visits.
  • Attend/Participate in Estimate Reconciliations
  • Be PROACTIVE in looking for ways to improve the delivery of our services to our Clients
  • Ability to present in front of a group.
  • Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, owners and project team. 
  • Estimating Associate will need to become proficient using our software programs and web-based software. Currently these include Microsoft Office products (mainly Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook), On-Screen by OnCenter, RS Means Online, Sharepoint, Bluebeam, and Egnyte.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Construction, Construction Management, or Architecture Preferred, but not Required
  • Knowledgeable of principles of architecture, engineering, and construction.
  • Strong ability to read specifications, plan designs and details.
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Strong organization, documentation, computer and communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft office particularly Microsoft Excel.
