Intern- Highway Engineering

JMT is seeking an Intern in the Highways Department at the Pittsburgh, PA office. The candidate will be responsible for various tasks and projects as part of a design team that is engineering a variety of transportation projects as well as preparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) to enhance their experience utilizing their education. Flexible schedule - for spring/summer session.  Sponsorship not available for this position.
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Design production of transportation projects in accordance with good engineering practice
  • Calculate quantity estimates, develop horizontal and vertical alignments, 3D model/cross-section development, drainage design, working with digital terrain models, and designing traffic control plans
  • Coordinating and scheduling work to meet project goals on time and budget
  • Coordinate with engineering design staff and other disciplines to meet project objectives

Required Skills
  • Ability to write, speak, and communicate clearly is a must
  • Strong time management and ability to prioritize
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Familiarity with engineering software is a plus. Examples may include Microstation, Geopak, OpenRoads (3D) CADD software, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SureTrack, ProjectWise, Microsoft Project, or other 3D modeling or CADD software

Required Experience
  • Full time student in engineering from an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering curriculum required
  • Capability working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team oriented environment
 
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 80 to 90% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
