GRADUATE STUDENT - KINETICS

Job Summary:

Join the Applied Power Division as Graduate Student Intern and support teams of Engineers, Scientists, and Analysts on diverse and exciting projects in areas such as electromechanical systems, aerospace systems, materials, and energetics. Job activities may include modeling and simulation, hardware/software design, prototyping, data analysis, laboratory experiments, field testing, market research, and technical presentations.

Education/Experience:

Must be pursuing a MS or PhD at an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or a similar engineering field. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Graduate level courses in finite element, autonomy, aerospace, image processing, or energetics is desirable. Ability to use SOLIDWORKS to convey concepts and make drawings is required. Familiarization with MATLAB scripting or Python programming is a plus. Working knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required. Must be able to assist full-time staff with the review research literature and survey industry data. Basic understanding of mechanisms, electronics, and fabrications techniques from courses/class projects are a plus. The ability to make engineering-based decisions using first principles, finite element models, or empirical data is required to ensure successful solutions. Supporting full-time staff with outdoor work and limited hands-on labor may be required to support field testing. Programming experience through class, internships, or projects with C/C++ is required. Experience with scientific computing, e.g. Python, or MATLAB is valued. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Laboratory or teaching assistant experience is valued. Contributions to peer-reviewed journal articles a plus. Courses in, or experience with, numerical modeling are also valued. Open to summer, local, or co-op student. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
