Director of Communications
Working collaboratively with the Agency Director and Chief of Staff, the Director, Public Relations & Information directs a professional corporate communications program that shapes the agency’s tone and voice in alignment with the Governor's goals and objectives, and delivers that voice to the public via media and industry relationships.
- Develops positive position statements and responses to news requests and interviews for the Agency Director, Chief of Staff and program leaders.
- Communicates regularly with the media and industry by distributing an agency e-newsletter that shares positive business news, monthly economic indicators and public service work of the agency.
- Serves as a liasion with the Governor's Office spokesperson.
- Serves as the agency’s spokesperson, providing public information to the media upon request in a timely and professional manner. Writes and distributes press releases.
- Manages the agency’s website, which provides core messages of the agency -- programs that provide public service and benefit South Carolina’s tourism industry partners.
- Represents the agency at various speaking enegagements across the state, to include industry associations and meetings as well as community and civic groups.
- Coordinates and manages ribbon cuttings, ground breaking and other special events at the South Carolina State Parks and Welcome Centers.
- Serves as the agency’s liaison for the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) and manages SCPRT’s role at the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) to assist business and industry during a crisis.
Minium Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, english, journalism/communications or related field.
- At least eight (8) years experience in public relations, media relations or marketing and management.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.
- Substantial knowledge of media relations, database management and desktop publishing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to plan and manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to operate a PC, fax machine and related office equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Valid SC Driver’s License.
Actual Job Location: SCPRT Central Office.
This position requires frequent in and out of state travel as well as air travel.
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
