Historic Preservation Intern

Cultural Resource Program Seeking Intern


The role: 

Are you interested in learning more about Oregon and applying your skills in historic preservation and studying our urban and rural landscapes? We are seeking an intern to work on a variety of transportation-related projects and initiatives under the guidance of our skilled professionals. Our Cultural Resources Program seeks to strike a balance between a growing transportation system and the protection of Oregon's significant cultural history. Come join our team – we’re looking for someone with an eagerness to learn from us while advancing their ability to work efficiently while managing a variety of projects.

This position is anticipated to be six months full time, with the possibility of part-time work (20+ hrs./week) for the right candidate. Those who are able to work full time may be given preference. The majority of time will be spent teleworking, so out-of-state candidates are welcome to apply. However, preference will be given to those who are able to perform occasional site visits in Oregon.

A day in the life:

  • Conduct project delivery-related tasks involving the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) and maintenance, state-funded and local agency initiatives.
  • Research and evaluate historic resources throughout the state, primarily remotely.
  • Cooperatively develop a statewide survey and historic context for our maintenance facilities.
  • Aid in our evaluation and review of our current and historic documentation.

 What we need:

  • Someone accepted into or enrolled in a masters program in the field of historic preservation (or related course of study). Those who have graduated with a masters degree within these fields within the past two years is also invited to apply.
