Product Engineering Intern (Exterior Residential)

As an Intern, Product Engineering you will work with the Product Engineering Team to coordinate testing, prototyping and qualification for new products, modified products and validation of manufacturing process optimization initiatives. Intern assignments will be project-oriented and focus on technical design, material selection, product performance, process fit, testing, prototyping
Assignments vary according to business need and intern qualifications. All are designed to stretch your skills and to support your professional development by providing clear goals and actionable feedback on your performance. In addition, you will be participating in a program that encompasses:
  • Approximately ten-week summer assignment at the Masonite Innovation Center in West Chicago
  • Development of personal and professional skills through training, networking and mentoring relationships
  • Interactions with senior leaders during intern activities such as lunch-and-learn events and leadership dialogues
  • The opportunity to build teamwork skills through interaction with other interns and colleagues
The Intern, Product Engineering will assist in specifying, designing, engineering, prototyping, testing and implementing highly specified impact/ attack resistant and/ or fire/ sound insulating door systems.
Responsibilities:
·      Define/ validate desired performance features
·      Selection and evaluation of materials
·      Engineering/ design of door systems solutions
·      Specification authoring/ drafting/ modeling
·      Prototyping, testing, engineer/ design for manufacturability/ assembly process development
Education:
·      Majoring in: Mechanical/ Composites Engineering (year 3 or 4)
Competencies:
·      General understanding of engineering with wood, composites, plastics, fiberglass, and adhesively/ mechanically bonded systems and assemblies. General understanding of translating performance requirements into manufacturable engineering designs. Applying fundamental engineering principles to test and understand failure modes of these materials, assemblies & technologies of sealing, insulated (thermal & sound), fire resistant and impact resistant composite systems. 3-D modeling skills (Inventor).
