Color Chemist Trainee

We are currently seeking a talented project associate to learn and assist our client: a leading color cosmetic company. You will be joining a team including Color Laboratory Chemists and Quality Assurance Managers.


Mission:

Participation in all projects 1) at the technical level: evaluations of color measurement equipment and color formulation software, installations, training, assistance as well as 2) liaison between marketing and manufacturing labs. Reporting and monitoring in-house and with clients. In this role, you will be a part of a team that:
  • Leads color expertise from new product development to final product launch.
  • Leads the co-creation of new color trends by catching and creating transversal color trends for makeup in collaboration with all relevant partners (Brand Marketing Research Teams, Trend Agencies, Color Community, Fast Beauty Innovation).
  • Develops the strategy for Color in the US aligned with local (development labs including Multi-Cultural Beauty and Fast Beauty) and global objectives.
  • Leads the creation and ensure the best performing and most relevant color ranges for all launched products based upon the analysis and understanding of the US market.
  • Understand our main competitor’s strategy in Color. Synthesize the competitive landscape surrounding all categories and identify areas of opportunity.
  • Analyzes the shade offer of US lead brands in order to be able to propose ideal shade ranges in collaboration with the makeup category labs and the global Color Experts.
  • Partners with the global color experts to assess shade range relevancy across multiple zones as needed.
  • Follows competition in collaboration and connection with the makeup categories labs.
  • Participates in the collaboration with trends agencies (ex. BeautyStream).
  • Follows and listen to brands (from NY or LA) for creative inspiration and concept development.
  • Innovates by bringing new colors and effects performances in collaboration with our raw material suppliers and the International Raw Materials Team.
  • Participates in upstream collaborations with vendors.
  • Attends supplier / International Raw Materials Team presentations and identify raw materials and technologies suitable for product development.
  • A technical color expertise with the ability to distinguish and recognize differences in shade


Profile of candidate:

Student or graduate of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
Someone with a keen understanding of the cosmetic market and the evolution of shade trends.
Someone with both scientific and artistic sensibilities.
Someone who can prioritize, handle multiple projects, and work with various groups within a matrix organization.


Preferred Qualifications:

Munsell test and understand L*a*b values.
Scientific experience in the cosmetics industry in formulation and/or creation of color products. Preference for someone with a hybrid R&D/Product Development background.
