Agricultural Outreach & Communications Officer

As the Agricultural Outreach & Communications Officer for the North South Institute, you will work with clients who are in agriculture or are interested in starting a business in agriculture, identify the needs of their business, and match them with to the appropriate training and assistance provided. Through this role, you will become familiar with USDA programs that meet the needs of the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural businesses we serve. You will also write all public communications promoting NSI Programs and related events. Applicants must have a strong attention to detail, and have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. This is an Independent Contractor position, where hired applicant will receive a 1099. 
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Social Studies, Communications, Journalism, Advertising, or related field.
-       Applicants with outreach experience, technical writing, and social media experience are preferred.
-       Bilingual applicants speaking English and Spanish are a plus.
-       Ability to work well independently and with a team, demonstrating good judgement.
-       Occasional in-state travel may be required.

Responsibilities:
o  Make the initial contact with clients not currently registered with the Institute
o  Register new clients with NSI and the USDA
o  Interpret and explain procedures, program regulations, and forms to clients
o  Visit client farms and ranches as needed to conduct site status reports
o  Conduct 1-on-1 listening sessions to understand the client’s current status and needs
o  Conduct client surveys and follow-up support after training or technical assistance is provided
o  Conduct call logs with clients before scheduled group training or technical assistance events
o  Track client interactions and follow-up required
o  Draft correspondences and reports as needed for NSI Program deliverables
o  Promote the NSI Programs through social media and e-newsletters
o  Manage assigned social media channels, planning and creating weekly content
o  Develop, execute, and report the digital marketing campaign results completed through social media, email, and other digital platforms
o  Work with the team to complete program reports
o  Preparation and Publishing (Reports, Fact Sheets, Technical Articles)
o  Develop & oversee press releases
o  Develop & oversee Digital and Analog Marketing & Branding
o  Website Management
o  Liaison for Business Partnerships with Local, State, and Federal Government
o  Grant Writing
o  Business Development/Recruitment
o  Plan & Coordinate Signature Events

Required Skills:
o  Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Zoom, and other current social media platforms
o  Excellent spelling and grammar skills
Interviews and training are done by phone or online as needed.
This position will require working a few days per week in the office, where masks and other safety protocols are implemented.
Completion of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
