Entry Level Product Line Engineer

A Product Line Engineer is responsible for the equipment and procedures that support the handling and examination of spent naval nuclear fuel. This includes preparing for and executing the receipt, installation, testing, checkout, and maintenance of government supplied equipment. This also includes the design and procurement of support equipment.

A Product Line Engineer is responsible for providing deliverables to an overall project plan while meeting all Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program requirements and standards. A typical career path for an entry level Engineer includes approximately one year of training and mentoring followed by at least another year or two of direct product line support before the engineer will be eligible for other opportunities. Direct product line support includes responding to and correcting equipment and procedure deficiencies in an operational environment and may involve shift work (primarily a rotating 9-hour day shift and swing shift assignment).

Advancement opportunities include projects to improve equipment, operations, and develop new product lines. Qualifications as a Refueling Operations Engineer, a bonus position requiring additional training and biennial re-qualification, may also be an option.
Essential Duties:
  • Delegated engineering responsibility that supports field, technology, analysis, facilities/infrastructure, testing, and operations activities.
  • Assist in the study, design, application, analyses, preparation of specifications and processes for systems, materials, equipment, or components relating to group's function.
  • Support other engineers who are performing related work through technical reviews and scoping.

  • Assist in the preparation of technical manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with NR Program quality standards.
  • Assist in design, development, execution, and evaluation of engineering research and design projects.
  • Complete training and work assignments that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering methods and practices of NNL.
