NPR’s Summer 2021 Internship Program will be fully remote.
Program Duration: June 1 - August 20, 2021
Are you passionate about creative digital storytelling and emerging social platforms? Do you want to work on self-directed story ideas? Ready to join a team that will treat you like the budding journalist you are -- and not the intern who gets boring assignments?
NPR’s Digital News team is looking for a winter/spring intern, and we want to hear from you. Send a cover letter, resume and samples of your best published journalism. NOTE: This is primarily a reporting and writing internship, and the schedule for this position may include some weekend hours.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with NPR’s digital editors and other journalists to pitch, report and write original stories for digital platforms.
- Leverage social media to help spot trends, report stories and engage NPR’s digital audiences.
- Write quick-turn blog posts tied to newsmaker interviews produced for Morning Edition, All Things Considered and other radio shows.
WHO CAN APPLY?
- LOCATION: Applicants must plan to work in the United States and be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the Summer 2021 internship program.
- EDUCATION: You must either be currently enrolled in an accredited degree program or have graduated within 12 months of the start of the internship.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Demonstrated experience in content creation for digital platforms
- Demonstrated daily reporting and writing experience
- Experience/interest in producing multimedia interactives
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly, accurately and under daily deadline pressure
- Knowledge of current events
- Some editing experience for a college or community publication is highly desirable
- Copy-editing experience, including strong knowledge of AP style, is a plus.
- A self-starter who can respond to feedback and editorial direction
