Communications Intern - Summer 2021: Corporate Social Responsibility

The Otis World Headquarters Communications Internship Program, specifically supporting our corporate social responsibility efforts, provides valuable exposure to the structure and multi-disciplinary approach of our global communications organization while getting hands on involvement in our corporate social responsibility (CSR) work through a variety projects and touchpoints with business leaders. Ultimately, we aim to build credibility as a responsible business, an industry leader and an employer of choice.

As we continue to mature our corporate social responsibility program, the Communications/CSR intern will be responsible for contributing to timely projects that drive awareness, engagement and understanding of our key programs across several audiences: internal Otis colleagues, external shareholders, investors, media, and community members.  Key responsibilities for this role include:
  • Help prepare and assist in the launch of our Otis signature CSR program, Made to Move Communities (year 2), working closely with the project team to ensure assets and tools are updated and regional implementation can begin.
  • Perform research and analysis on community relations opportunities within a set of key geographic regions, results will inform overall global-local CSR strategy aligned to business goals.
  • Provide support to the broader Communications department including employee communications, public relations, social media campaigns and content creation to be leveraged across earned, shared, and owned channels.
  • Collaborate with CSR team to develop and launch an efficient online volunteer portal for employees from across the business to upload/report volunteer hour and activities completed.
  • Develop a plan to introduce new Otis employees to the company’s CSR or social impact program and opportunities to get engaged.
  • Support the Director, Corporate Social Responsibility in engaging with regional teams on corporate giving, sponsorship, and matching gifts guidance; goal is to design a comprehensive strategy that is suitable for Otis worldwide but flexible enough to meet the needs of various regions/countries.
  • Conduct benchmarking and gap analysis related to Otis Environmental Social Governance (ESG) ratings to inform action plans.
  • Support specific research related to the design and development of Otis’ first standalone Sustainability Report, which will be published in early 2022
  • Track best practices and emerging practices in ESG compiling reports to be shared with ESG cross functional experts and stakeholders.

This is a remote-based, paid summer internship, typically starting in May/June and ranging from 10-12 weeks.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Summer 2021 internship opportunities are available for full-time undergraduate and graduate students working toward a BS or MS degree in Communications or similar field of study. Master’s students preferred.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility/Environmental Social Governance (ESG) frameworks and practices
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, all candidates must be strong writers/storytellers
  • Adept project management skills, flexibility and adaptability

Additionally, candidates should be self-starters and be able to work independently. They should be able to communicate a clear understanding of their subject matter, work in cross-functional teams, respect individual differences and welcome diverse thinking, and offer informed suggestions to improve processes.
