Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer position implements, supports, maintains, and manages enterprise-wide IT services, including networking, IT security, email, and disaster recovery for national company with offices across the US. In addition, this individual provides advanced technical support for desktop, server, and networking issues delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security. The position ensures all IT services are properly maintained and upgraded, including anti-virus, backups, imaging, and patching. Our Senior Systems Engineer also provides subject matter expertise for both hardware and software.
 
We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong background in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis with demonstrated ability and strong desire to quickly learn new systems.
 
Essential Functions
  • Monitor and administer existing on-premise and cloud-based systems and infrastructure to ensure uptime and reliability
  • Implementation and installation of new enterprise-class hardware, software, and cloud-based systems
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Administer backups and disaster recovery systems
  • Identify, communicate and mitigate risks, assumptions, issues and decisions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide 3rd level support as needed and mentor IT help desk staff as well as other system support staff
  • Design and implement security systems and redundant backups to maintain data safety
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Perform root-cause analysis for service interruption recovery and recommend preventive measures to be implemented
 
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field preferred
  • 3+ years' experience in Wintel systems engineering and 5+ years’ IT support experience overall required
  • Experience with supporting a WAN connected, multi-location organization
  • Significant experience with virtualized enterprise class applications
  • Solid experience with VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Active Directory, and DNS is required
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking and LAN/WAN/WWAN technologies
  • Experience administering and configuring Meraki security appliances, switches, and wireless access points is preferred
  • Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS is highly preferred
  • Experience administering and supporting Microsoft Office365 services is required
  • Solid understanding of best practices regarding system security measures and some experience with enterprise-class security systems
  • Professional experience and a high-level understanding of working with various Windows desktop and server operating systems
  • Ability to work together with teams from different business units to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan
  • Demonstrated dedication to providing exceptional customer service and building highly reliable systems
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA and FDA policies, procedures and implementation strategies
  • Ability to deal with occasional challenging situations and resolve them to everyone’s satisfaction
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language to non-technical staff and end users
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to sign confidentiality agreement and protect trade secrets
  • Exceptional networking skills and knowledge
  • Travel of 10% - 20% within the US will be required
