Communications Professional, Entry Level

Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a communications specialist at the Bettis Laboratory. The selected candidate will join the Communications and Public Affairs (C&PA) Community and will report to the Communications and Public Affairs manager.

Some roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and edit creative, effective and professional messages, communication strategies, and plans. Techniques include written, web-based, video, audio, and in-person presentations.
  • Partner with additional site communicators/key stakeholders across NNL locations including Naval Reactors Facility, Knolls Laboratory Site, and Kesselring Site and the Communications and Public Affairs unit.
  • Assist with organizational projects, including business plan roll outs and on-site ceremonies, as well as update the digital site signage.
  • Contribute to or lead employee morale events, including event planning and VIP visit support.
  • Develop and track metrics to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness of key messages. 
 
REQUIRED SKILLS *

Associate:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university

Intermediate:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year relevant experience. 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Degrees in Communications, Human Resources, Marketing, Business, or MBA are preferred.
  • Coursework or experience developing and delivering effective written and oral communications to all levels of an organization.
  • Desire to lead and manage projects.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in successfully organizing and planning events (e.g. recognition ceremonies, employee morale events, and dignitary visits).
  • Experience with graphic design, professional newsletter production and multimedia (e.g. photography, videography, and podcasts).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and SharePoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Familiarity with project management software.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, including effectively working across multiple locations.
  • Experience developing and tracking communication metrics and creative visual displays to represent status and recommendations.
  • Training or experience using project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
  • Action-oriented, can-do approach that demonstrates initiative, ownership and customer focus.
