Data Visualization & Urban Design/Planning Internship
Tindale Oliver has an immediate opening for a highly motivated person to work part-time with our Tampa, FL office. This role will focus on data analysis and cross-platform manipulation to design, construct, and render models, maps and graphics. This person will utilize software such as ArcGIS, Sketchup, and other modeling, mapping and 3D visualization software. Our company specializes in provided industry-leading transportation, community planning and design, transit, and public finance solutions to public sector clients. These visuals will be based on data from various sources and will be used to provide our clients with visuals to show what the client is asking for in their projects, but also providing images of what our experts know is possible or alternate solutions. The right candidate for this position will be excited by using data to tell a strong in the areas of Urban Planning, Urban Design or GIS. This person must also have a proven ability to complete independent research and present their findings by providing research backed options, solutions and recommendations.
Essential Functions:
1. Create visualization (renderings such as 3D streetscapes, buildings and other built forms, and may include some design) from multiple data sets, in response to the project needs.
2. Analyze data to determine the key findings and determine innovative and interesting ways to present the data in visual form.
3. Integrate data from various systems into a usable format that allows the information to interface and be presented in one graphic/display/diagram.
4. Follow city/county zoning and codes, project specs and industry standards to create models and graphics based on the data provided.
5. Keep up to date with the latest developments in 3D modeling and use those skills and expertise to suggest additional ways to utilize the technology, graphics and analysis to meet client needs.
6. Work across service areas and teams to provide requested visuals.
7. Prepare written reports, memoranda, briefs, summaries, training packages, and presentation materials to support and explain the visual outputs.
8. Work closely with project teams as well as public and private sector clients.
Skills/Abilities Requirements:
1. Highly computer literate and motivated by learning new programs and new ways to utilize existing software.
2. Expert level knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS, SketchUp, and other computer mapping and 3D visualization software.
3. Enthusiastic about working with data and using data analysis and data visualization to tell a story.
4. Experience with, or willingness to learn, the following is a plus:
a. Placemaker extension, ArcPro, AutoCAD
b. 3D imaging technologies to complete 3D scans of a complex urban environment
c. Developing GIS deliverables, including 3D vector layers, georeferenced point clouds, and process 3D Lidar data.
d. Creating 3D flythroughs, cross-sections and orthophotos.
5. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
6. Able to participate in field data collection activities.
7. Able to communicate in English verbally and in writing.
8. Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
9. Able to pass a drug test.
10. Honest and ethical.
11. Have a valid driver’s license.
Education Requirements: Minimum high school diploma and currently enrolled in college pursuing Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, Graphic Design, Engineering, Geography/GIS, or related degree. Technical diploma in 3D modeling, a plus. This is a paid internship at a rate of $17/hour, for approximately 20 hours per week.
