Post Masters Research Associate - Geophysics

The Applied Geophysics and Geomechanics Team within the Earth Systems Science Division is seeking a highly motivated individual with a commitment to scientific excellence and national impact on critical scientific challenges. The candidate for the Post-Masters Research Associate position must have received a MSc from an accredited college or university in geophysics or a related field (see below). The candidate is expected to support efforts using time-lapse geophysical imaging methods and other environmental sensors and data products to interrogate subsurface properties and processes related to subsurface geothermal energy production, geologic carbon sequestration, environmental remediation, and subsurface issues related to national security. The candidate’s responsibilities will include independent field and lab work coupled with data processing and analysis. Travel to various field sites throughout the United States is expected (can be 25% - 50% depending on the project). A successful candidate will also author reports, contribute to peer-reviewed journal articles, and collaborate with colleagues from multiple disciplines in the subsurface sciences. This position will focus on design / build of environmental and geophysical measurement systems, construction of complex automated sensor networks, and field data acquisition duties

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

Preferred Qualifications
Those with educational backgrounds and experience in geophysics, geology, engineering (geological/civil/mechanical/electrical) are encouraged to apply. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

Preferred Qualifications include:
  • Experience in designing, building, deploying, and validating environmental sensors
  • Experience designing and executing geophysical surveys that produce high quality data
  • Experience with repairing field equipment
  • Collection, analysis, and summary of geophysical/environmental data
  • Technical writing experience
  • 3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
