Entry Level Technical Editor/Writer
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an entry level Technical Editor/Writer to edit and publish information for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Technical Editors/Writers maintain electronic file collections in a content management system to maintain configuration control over the documents. The mission is to convey information that Naval personnel need to operate a propulsion plant or to perform detailed nuclear testing and maintenance. Activity in this publishing environment requires publication of paper documents and electronic products (PDF format and Web-based manuals). This position requires extreme attention to detail and adherence to strong process controls in a highly structured environment. Strong PC skills and experience with a variety of publication software and markup languages desired, including MS Word, XML, and SGML. Interaction with the engineering community and other stakeholders is a must to ensure zero defects and publishing to required deadlines. Technical Editors/Writers coordinate with stakeholders, organize, edit, proof multiple outputs, and publish and oversee duplication and distribution to manual holders. Required Skills *
Associate:
- B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university.
Intermediate:
- B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
- Masters degree in related field from an accredited college or university
Preferred Skills
- Degrees in English, Technical Writing, Communications or Journalism
- Experience with XML, SGML, and HTML
- Strong editorial skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to analyze content for clarity and organize information logically.
- Affinity for computer applications, especially document composition and management.
