Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory, day and boarding school, which educates young women for a life of faith, integrity, and truth. We are currently seeking a full-time high school theatre teacher/director to start immediately who is collaborative, adaptive, creative and passionate about education in the arts. The position is a temporary position for the 2021-2022 school year. The Theatre Teacher will teach 3 classes and work on one show during the school year (second semester).
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and skillful teacher/director who is excited to maintain and continue a vision that supports and highlights our talented students, and our new art center and theatre. They must possess strong interpersonal skills in order to create cohesive performance communities that are collaborative and nurturing, while also maintaining high, yet achievable, standards. The candidate should be eager to work collaboratively to create meaningful interdisciplinary experiences and work closely with other members of the department and school community to meet the goals and needs of all stakeholders.
Responsibilities and expectations:
Teach three theatre performance classes: beginning, intermediate and advanced.
Directs two major productions per year, fall play and spring musical, which includes rehearsals 4 days/week (M, T, Th, F) from 3:15-5:30 and Saturday mornings.
Manages theatre class and production budgets
Evening and weekend work required
Selects materials to be produced, schedules and runs auditions, rehearsals and productions
Responsible for advertising and gathering photos and information for programs
Maintains effective communication with parents and students
Attends all faculty and department meetings, along with other related events
Creates a variety of student-centered learning experiences using a variety of instructional methods, reflective of best teaching and theatre practices
Plans, revises, and develops course content, and develops new courses and curriculum that reflect the mission and curricular goals of the school and department
This position requires:
Bachelor’s degree in theatre; advanced degree(s) and/or teaching credential preferred
5+ years of teaching experience required; preferably at the high school level
Previous professional experience directing high-quality plays and musicals
Flexibility with work schedule is necessary as day, evening and weekend hours will be periodically required
Ability to work closely with the technical director
Hire and manage design personnel
Proficiency with technology and a willingness to integrate technology within the classroom
Familiarity with a broad range of theatrical styles and pedagogies
Commitment to excellent teaching and lifelong learning through ongoing participation in professional development
We seek educators who are able and eager to collaborate with colleagues and students on interdisciplinary research projects and have experience with instructional technology and innovative teaching strategies.
